My grandmothers piano

by Kit

My grandmother's piano was originally placed in Frederiksberg, where she was born and grew up. Since I was very small, I have been infatuated by it, and later on, I've spent thousands of hours playing it. After having lived approximately 5 years on my own, I asked my parents if it would be ok if it moved back home to Copenhagen - and since then she has followed me through my countless moves. Poor her... But still... She's so loved.

My Melodicas

by Kit

I didn't know my grandfather, but I know he played a little music now and then, including the harmonica and melodica. And I so lucky to have found some of his old instruments and have incorporated them into many of my songs.

My microphone

by Kit

When I found this Pearlman for sale there was not much to do. I love the sound of it - and what it does to my voice. What I didn't know though was that when I bought it, the tubes had gone, so I recorded my entire EP with a broken microphone and therefore had to re-record everything again... And if you know how many vocal tracks I have per session, you know, what a horrible task that is. But she is now fixed and I have named her Whitney - and she is an indispensable part of my home study.

Me

by Kit

My path – in short

After a year of immersion, studying psychology at the University of Copenhagen, I realized that I had to pursue a bigger dream; music. In 2010, I was admitted to the Rhythmical Conservatory in Copenhagen, and was given the opportunity to fully plunge myself in music – studying during the day and singing at night. My time at the conservatory gave me a strong musical network, and where I had previously focused on the practical aspects of music, I now also gained theoretical experience. After graduating, I decided to strengthen my mercantile skills at Copenhagen Business School, and studied “Intercultural Market Communication” (with French as my main language); the communicative education at CBS, with the biggest focus on business economics and marketing. After graduating and years of employment, I took over the responsibility for, and the operation of, the family business Flensted Mobiles, which led me to the collaboration with Antoni Legacy, who represents the artist Ib Antoni and his works. Here, I am now in charge of business development, as well as various tasks within sales and marketing.

Privately, I live in a small apartment on top of the roofs in Copenhagen and divide my time between my work in the retail and design industry and in the music industry. My heart beats fervently for the beautiful museums in Copenhagen, Glyptoteket, Thorvaldsen’s and our wonderful theatre dubbed “The Old Stage” – for American RnB – music with bandoneon, harmonica, and melodica – for huge backing vocal arrangements – simmering stews and dry champagne – and then I love running.

My core competencies in music…
… is singing and songwriting, which I have worked actively with for over 20 years. I am very skilled in backing vocal arrangements and adlib progressions.

In addition, I have extensive experience with…
… singing and microphone technique, and performance, which is a completely natural part of making a living from one’s music. The same applies to band leadership and the organization and spirit it requires. For several years I have taught singing and piano, and have had students between the ages of 6-45, where I naturally focus on vocal coaching, but also coaching in general, as singing usually opens many doors to many spaces within us. Here, my experience with, and great interest in, psychology and therapy come handy. Both from my time on stage and for teaching purposes, I have experience with stage fright and working with one’s limits and exceeding them. For almost 10 years I have been very active in my home studio. I have produced speak (spoken recordings) for companies and have written and produced my own songs and co-written with others, as a topline writer. Through my work as a singer, I am used to being outgoing, and having made a living from music and dealing with the music industry has taught me a lot about life as an entrepreneur. Besides singing, I also play piano, guitar and most recently my grandfather’s old Hohner Melodica. I write songs (and sing) in both Danish, English, and French. Over time, music has taken me to many different places, for example on a tour around Scotland to “The Most Remote Bars in Britain” – to singing for Disney – and countless jobs with jazz and party bands at weddings in France, Austria, and Israel.

My work in the retail and design industry
One of my core competencies within the mercantile area is branding. I love diving into a company, clarifying its most important cornerstones and pillars and creating a stronger foundation on which to build on. My many years of collaborations all over the world have taught me a great deal about communication, rhetoric, cultural differences, and business psychology. I have been project manager on many tasks concerning product design and product development, both in collaboration with museums and manufacturers from all over the world. Since 2012, I have had my fingers deeply buried in digitization, sales and marketing, as well as participating in countless fairs in Europe. Since I was the manager of a team of 10 employees for 2 years, I have worked a lot with team building, company coaching and conflict management. In my work as a part of the team that created the book “The Man Who Drew Denmark” I gained extensive experience with project management, translation, graphic design, proofreading, as well as PR and event management. I have never been afraid of getting engaged in various responsibilities, and over time have been a member of several councils and boards. I love languages, and in particular English. Due to my Francophile mother and my studies, I speak French. This led me to my interest in Spanish and I stayed 2 months in South America to learn the language, which I now speak moderately. I also speak German for everyday needs.

Records and artists that have shaped me:
“The Pink Panther” by Henry Mancini, “La Glorie de Mon Père” by Vladimir Cosma, Stevie Wonder’s “Songs in The Key of Life”, Whitney Houstons first record, “Never Say Never” by Brandy, Toni Braxton’s “Secrets”, Michael Jackson’s “Dangerous”, “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill”, “Brown Sugar” by D’Angelo, “The Writings on The Wall” by Destiny’s Child, Meshell Ndegeocello’s “Peace Beyond Passion”, George Michael’s “Ladies & Gentlemen”, “Sex, Love & Pain 2” by Tank, Faith Evans’ “The First Lady”, Jazmine Sullivan’s “Reality Show”, “He is Christmas” by Take 6, “Classics for The O.G.’s Volume 1” by Fingazz, Chet Baker’s “Chet Baker Sings”, Anita Baker’s “Rhythm of Love”, Mac Ayres’ “Drive Slow”, Joni Mitchell’s “Blue”, Santana’s “Black Magic Woman”, Mariah Carey’s “#1’s”, Bruno Mars’ “24K Magic, The Seven EP by Emily King, Waltz for Debbie by Monica Zetterlund and Bill Evans, TRAPSOUL by Bryson Tiller, One Man Band by James Taylor, “You Should Be Here” by Kehlani, “Amoroso” by João Gilberto, “Three Rings” by T-Pain, and also Aretha Franklin, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Steely Dan, H.E.R., Chaka Khan, Charlie Wilson, Etta James, Frank Ocean, Don Blackman, Earth Wind & Fire, Kelly Price, Drake, Luther Vandross, Erykah Badu, Chris Brown, Terese, Missy Elliott, Midnight Star, Kim Burrell, Stacy Barthe, Trey Songz, Musiq Soulchild, Bon Iver, Snoop Dogg, and I could go on…

Thorvaldsen’s

by Kit

Thorvaldsen's Museum is an adventure. My mother and father used to take me there - and with a book on Greek mythology under the arm we would walk through the halls and read about the amazing Greek gods while looking at the sculptures. What a gift it is to be able to walk in these hallways and take in all the impressions.

Tegner’s

by Kit

Tegners Museum is pure poetry. If you have not read Tegner's memoirs, it is definitely recommended, but visiting his gem of a museum is a must. Tegner's ambition and fervor can be found everywhere - and the beautiful tradition of "candlelight evenings" is still upheld right here at this amazing place.

The Glyptotek

by Kit

Ever since I was a little girl, I have loved every corner of the Glyptotek. It is such a fairytale of a pearl that Carl Jacobsen gave us all when he built her. Sitting in the palm garden and enjoying a glass of wine is like going on a long-awaited vacation. I just love that place.

My Homestudio

by Kit

I have been producing my own songs since 2012 and really enjoy working in my little home studio. It's a small setup, but it works just fine for me. My home studio, like myself, has had to move many times - and each time I'm so nervous that I might not be able to make it work - but each time, thankfully, I find a way.

Logic

If you want to start producing, there are a multitude of options in terms of software. I'm a huge fan of Logic. It is, as the word implies, very logical - and has been so easy for me to use.

My Guitar

by Kit

My guitar was my first instrument, that I got as a gift. I have played it for thousands of hours and I love its sound. After I started playing the piano, the keys have taken over, but I still love to take my Takamine with me if I should be invited to a campfire.
